Artist/Researcher/Teacher
My name is Stephanie Baer and I am a professional in art education at multiple levels (k-12, district, higher education). I love that I get to be part of evolving conversations that have been going on since the beginning of time - that of the arts and learning. My interest is where these concepts merge. And they do. Everywhere.
Autobiographical Lectures of Leaders in Art Education, 2001-2021: A Selection of Self-Reflections and Living Histories is an invaluable collection of narratives from prominent art educators and researchers. |
Being Your Own Advocate: Insights from Novice Art Teachers is a journey in narrative. Seven teachers lives are illustrated in image and story, highlighting the incredible capabilities new teachers can have to advocate for themselves, their students, their field, and so much more. |
Dr. Baer at TEDx: Fear is an ever-present element in the experience of teaching and learning - specifically in the arts. 'I can't draw...I'm just not that creative....I only draw stick-figures..." What if we could enable our students (and our future teachers) to deliberately confront fear and work with it?

I am an artist/researcher/teacher. I have been in practice my entire life. Degrees and certifications have been earned along the way, but I am always learning and re-learning, and adjusting to what it means to be an artist, a researcher, and a teacher. In no particular order, these identities define my work and my view of life. I am not one without the other - they work fluidly to inform and expand one another.
On this site I provide my philosophies of art and teaching as well as my CV and examples of my work. Feel free to contact me. My current CV can be viewed here.
